NFL Draft 2001: Nick's Mock Draft

4/20/2001

Round 1

1 Michael Vick QB Virginia Tech
Ryan Leaf is gone and with the addition of Doug Flutie they will have a few years to let Vick mature and learn
2 Gerald Warren DT Florida
I believe they will trade this pick to acquire more picks in the earlier rounds. They need help in quite a few spots like DT, DE, OT, a G. If they choose to keep this pick they will take the best DT around.
3 LanDanian Tomilson RB TCU
He has moved up on some of the draft boards now that he has shown his blazing speed at the combine, and the Brown's need a threat in the backfield to help take some pressure off of Couch.
4 Leonard Davis OT Texas
Need to get help on the O-Line and he should fit perfectly
5 Justin Smith DE Missouri
Will provide an immediate pass rush and stopping the run on a defense that needs a lot of help
6 David Terrell WR Michigan
If Davis falls this far they will take him but if he is taken they will add a great weapon for Bledsoe
7 Rod Gardner WR Clemson
Since they picked up key free agents like John Randell and Chad Eaton they will now help out the offense
8 Andre Carter DE California
The Bears could choose a RB here if they feel they do not need a top pass rusher which they despertaly need
9 Deuce McAlister RB Mississippi
May draft defense here but will have to look hard at Duece since Garner has left.
10 Koren Robinson WR NC State
Will give Farve another option at WR
11 Dan Morgan LB Miami
They are hoping that Tomilson or Duece fall here but if not they will take a great player that will help immediately
12 Michael Bennet RB Wisconsin
May trade pick to the Rams for Green but if not they need some type of threat at RB
13 Kenyatta Walker OT Florida
Need to replace Leon Searcy and Walker should do the job also could take Stroud here if Walker is gone
14 Marcus Stroud DT Georgia
Will need someone to take over for Ted Washington and Stroud could fill every inch of that hole
15 Chris Chambers WR Wisconsin
Will not be able to passs on a player like Chambers
16 Nate Clements CB Ohio St
Despertly need help in the secondary and Clements should play right away
17 Fred Smoot CB Mississippi St
Also could take a DT but with Randell and Eaton they will look elsewhere first and Smoot will be a good fit
18 Steve Hutchinson G Michigan
The Lions will be looking to add protection for Batch and for someone to open holes for Stewart so they can get there offense rolling like it was with Barry Sanders.
19 Santana Moss WR Miami
Would love for him to fall and take up the 2nd receiver spot from the start and would also give them an option on kick returning
20 Adam Archuleta S Arizona St
Will have to take him with this pick because of the chance of losing him to the Raiders if they wait till there next pick.
21 Jeff Backus OT Michigan
Will add some youth to the O-Line
22 Will Allen CB Syracuse
Need help at WR most but will take the best player availabe that will help them now
23 Todd Heap TE Arizona St
Will add another option to an already potent offense
24 Chad Johnson WR Oregon St
Need to add some depth to the WR's McCaffery is getting up there in years
25 Quincy Morgan WR Kansas St
It is no secret that the Eagles need a WR so they will take the best one on the board and Morgan should be a great fit with McNabb
26 Drew Brees QB Purdue
Would not be able to pass on him with the condition they are in with QB's even know they need a WR
27 LaMont Jordan RB Maryland
Have not done anything in Free Angency and Chapman is not the answer to replacing Smith
28 Derrick Gibson S Florida St
Will compete for the starting job from day one and should push Pope out of the stating lineup
29 Richard Seymour DT Georgia
Would be estatic to see this happen. 2 great players in the 1st RD.
30 Alge Crumpler TE North Carolina
Would like to move up and take a top corner but if they stay here look for them to add a TE
31 Dominic Raiola C Nebraska
Now is the time to bring in young players for the veterans to teach and groom along the way.

Round 2

32 LaMont Jordan RB Maryland
With the addition of Jordan and Vick the Chargers should start to get their offense rolling again
33 Casey Hampton DT Texas
Hampton is a work horse whose motor never stops running and the Rams will have an immediate boost to their defense
34 Karon Riley DE Minnesota
Cardinals still trying to improve their defensive line.
35 Brandon Winey OT LSU
He will look to help bring the running game back
36 Torrence Marshall LB Oklahoma
With the addition of Smith in the 1st RD, they will beef up the middle and instantly improve their defense

Mitchell and Robinson would be a threat every week
39 Ronnie Daniels WR Texas A&M

Hopefully this will bring about some sort of rushing game
47 Cedrick Scott DE Southern Mississippi
Will add much need help to the pass rush
48 Nate Clements CB Ohio St
There is a strong need for a player who can help immediately on defense
49 Hakim Akbar S Washington
Should push Frost out of the starting lineup right away
50 Derrick Chambers DT Florida
Need help on the defensive front
51 Arthur Love TE South Carolina St
Do not need much help anywhere else so look for them to add another offensive weapon
52 Gary Baxter CB Baylor
He will be a great addition to a defense that needs some help in the secondary
53 Ken Lucas CB Mississippi
He will help out an already top defense
54 Will Allen CB Syracuse
Rams were horrible on defense last year but that should change dramatically this year
55 Delawrence Grant DE Oregon St
Need a player opposite of Douglas who also can provide some pass rush
56 Anthony Thomas RB Michigan
Lamar Smith in no young buck, A-Train should be a great fit at either HB or FB, he has the ability to play both
57 Reggie Germany WR Ohio State
With Carter on the verge of retirement and Hattchet leaving they will need to revive there receiving corps.
58 Chris Brown OT Georgia Tech
There is always talk of the offensive line breaking up so they will look to get some dept for they fall apart
59 Carlos Polk LB Nebraska
Need a WR but there is not a top player out there so they will look to add depth to their aging LB group
60 Kareem McKenzie OT Penn St
Bruce Matthews can not play forever
61 Adam Archuleta S Arizona St
Will need a player to replace Brown someday and that could be sooner then expected
62 Jarrod Cooper S Kansas St
The best defense will only look to get better with the loss of Herring

66 Floyd Womack OG Mississippi St
Will be adding some needed protection for their QB and Dillion
67 Chris Wienke QB Florida St
Have no choice but to take a chance with him
68 James Jackson RB Miami
Jackson along with Carter and Mitchell would give an already good Bears team a much better team
69 Rudi Johnson HB Auburn
Still have no legit back and Johnson could be the answer
70 Markus Steele LB USC
Gave up way too many yards last year on defense
71 Alex Bannister WR Eastern Kentucky
Are in need of WR's that can help out Owens and Bannister could be the answer
72 Derrick Chambers DT Florida
Will be a good rotation player
73 Kyle Vanden Bosch DE Nebraska

No Pick Forfeited for Salary Cap Reasons
81 Paul Zukauskas OG Boston College
Now that Farve is a Packer for life they will get him some protection
82 Willie Howard DT Stanford
Would of liked to get a top DT but Howard should be a top player in a couple of years

Might be the steal of the draft if he falls this low

Tim Brown and James Jett are on the way down, and Ferguson and last years pick Porter will be good replacements
91 Marvin Minnis WR Florida St
Minnis will give the Titans another receiver to go with Mason
92 Jarrod Cooper S Kansas St
Will look to add depth to the secondary
93 Jarvis Borum OT NC State
What else do they need
94 Ron Edwards DT Texas A&M
(Compensation Pick) With the addition of 3 new defensive players they should be better off against the run
