Max Players: Virtually

The 3 team lottery pool
is a simple pool with no skill or knowledge of football
required. Each player in the pool is randomly given a
unique 3 team combination. You can pull them out of a hat,
draw numbers, etc. As long as each person has a unique 3 team
combination. Each player puts up an ante each week and the
person with the 3 team combination that scores the lowest
combined points and the person with the 3 team combination
that have the highest combined points splits the pot each
week.
The against the spread
pool is a game that requires a little more football knowledge.
Each week, a point spread is assigned to each game. The point
spread can be taken from the Las Vegas lines, local newspaper,
etc. Each player in the pool then selects which team will
'cover the spread' in each game. That is, if a team is favored
by 4 points but only wins by 3 then the underdog in that game
would be declared the winner. The person with the most wins at
the end of each week wins the ante from all the other players
that week.
The blocks pool is
probably a familiar one to you. It is best suited for the
Super Bowl or for each game of the local team in your area. To
play the game, construct a 10 x 10 grid so that there are 100
blocks in the grid. Have people randomly write their names
into the blocks, having one block cost X amount of money.
After all the blocks have been filed, place the number 0-9
randomly along both the vertical and horizontal axis so that
each block has a vertical and horizontal number associated
with it. Label one axis the name of one team in the game and
label the other with that teams opponent. At the end of the
game take the last digit of each team's score(0-9) and find
whose name is in that block on the grid. That person wins
all the money collected from the other players.
Each week, beginning
with week one, each player antes up the set amount of
money and selects one team that they think will win their
game straight up that week. If that player's team wins, that
player goes on to the next week and if that player's team
loses then that player is out of the pool and all money they
had bet is lost. The game continues week after week until
there is only one player left in which case that player is the
winner and they collect all the money. The catch is that you
can only pick each team one time. So if someone selects Denver
in week 1, they can not select Denver again for the rest of
the season. Therefore, it becomes more and more difficult to
pick a winner each week as the season goes on and players
eventually start to become eliminated.
Before the season starts,
everyone ante up a set amount and put all 31 team's names in a
hat. Each of the people in the pool selects one name from the
hat. At the end of the season, which ever person drew the
team that wins the super bowl wins all the money from the
pool.
There are 15 games each
week. Each player in the pool selects the winner of each game
straight up each week and ranks that pick with a
number(weight) between 1 and 15. 15 is the highest and 1
is the lowest. Each weight, 1 through 15, MUST be used on a
game. When ever a winner is picked that player recieves the
weight that they assigned to that game. For example, if you
pick Denver to beat Oakland and weight it a 15, i.e. you are
confident that Denver will win, and Denver does win then you
recieve 15 points. The player with the most points each week
wins the pot.
There are 15 games each
week. Each player in the pool selects the winner of each game
straight up each week. The player with the most wins each
week wins the pot. Usually there are ties, some common
tie-breakers include: correct pick of the Monday night game
winner, closest prediction of the total score of the Monday
night game, etc.
